Looking Up Where To Volunteer In Eastside Detroit

By Marie Patterson

Human beings are social animals. This means that the live in communities with at least a few other members of their own species. Given that, the settlements that they live in cease to be simple settlements. They form bonds with each other, and instead of being settlements, they become communities. But not everyone in the community will have the same level of comfort. But there are people that want to level the playing field to some degree. Which is why they will go out about finding where to volunteer in Eastside Detroit.

First, it must be explained what volunteering is. Well, when a person goes to work, they render their time and labor because they will b compensated for that with a paycheck and benefits. Being a volunteer is kind of like that. Except that the only compensation is that maybe they get a free meal out of the whole experience, or the experience itself.

Some individuals do it because they are good. They do it because they see something wrong, and then something inside of them compels them to act and to right that wrong. This is something that can be done one time, just for the novelty of it, or it can be a regular occurrence.

Then there those who do it as a form of penance. They do something bad. Not so bad that they end up in a jail cell. But bad enough that they feel all kinds of guilty over it. So they help somebody else out.

There are certain times of the year where people feel the need to volunteer. This is especially prevalent during religious holidays. People get all spiritual and altruistic, suddenly overcome with a desire to help their fellow man, a desire that fades as soon as the season ends. The rest of the year, the institutions that need help often find themselves lacking in that department. So, if somebody wants to render some aid, then the chances to do so can be easily found online.

One way to use time wisely is to help out at an animal shelter. Animals have some level of sentience, but other than parrots being able to imitate human speech pattern, they cannot speak human language. But that are still generally smart enough to know what they are doing and what is happening around them. They have no voice, but they can have an advocate.

The environment is also something that can be helped with. A community should be beautiful. But some of them are littered with garbage and debris. Picking some this up, while unable to reverse the effects of climate change, can have a transformative effect on the people.

Now, on to the people. Sometimes, life just deals someone a bad hand and they end up on the streets. On these streets, they often find themselves having to scrounge garbage canisters for food and not having a secure place to sleep. Now, there are places out there that offer meals and beds, but their space and supplies are limited. Not to mention they also sometimes lack the manpower needed to keep them running smoothly.

Life is not always easy. A lot of times, it is hard. But with a human population of seven billion, there are more than few helping hands around.
