Reasons For Considering Medical School Admissions Coach

By Nancy Bennett

Applying to study medicine is arduous. The criteria are stringent. This is attributed to the fact that these institutions have a responsibility to churn out only the best. There is actually a book that outlines the process. If one is still having trouble understanding the process, they may contact a medical school admissions coach. This person can help one through every step of the process. There is a higher chance of getting in this way especially if one has no idea how or where to start.

Apart from academic qualifications, there are personal qualities that one should have. Qualities that contribute to the general ability to be a doctor. To care for people. To do no harm. One must be absolutely committed to the work. One must be of the highest possible integrity. One should also have some volunteer work up their sleeve. This displays the ability to serve selflessly.

As it is with any other process, there will be an interview. The interviews are meant to test the capability of the student to think. Their knowledge of the field of study. One will get to express their opinions and observations on different topics. It is important to note that before beginning this whole process, one should have some exposure. The field of medicine is not meant for everyone. In fact, some say that it is a calling. One should volunteer or otherwise expose themselves to the work so they can test their own suitability for it. This exposure will come in handy during the interview.

There are three different GPAs observed in this instance. The science GPA is perhaps the most important. It proves to the applicant and institution that the candidate has the capability to understand and hold the material taught in class if they do get in. It lays a sort of foundation for the very science heavy hours ahead. Then the overall GPA and MCAT score are factored in.

One will need a trainer especially is their writing skills need work. One could be everything the institution is looking for but then have no skills to express themselves whatsoever. The personal statement makes a big impact. It piques the curiosity of the relevant parties. It is important to have a mentor or someone who can guide through the application process. If one does not have that kind of person in their life, this kind of professional will come in handy. The consultant will also help one prep for the interviews.

A consultant is important to this process. But, one should not just settle for any consultant. These professionals are not cheap. One should, therefore, find out about the success rate first. How often than not have their services led to success. What can they bring to the application process that will be relevant and effective in getting called back for interviews?

How experienced is the consultant in this work? What do they know about what goes on behind the curtains? How do they gain insight into what institutions look for in applicants? Are there physicians on the team? Also how diverse is the team such that there are specialists for say, minority students?

As mentioned, these services are not cheap. However, if compared with going at it alone. The cost of mistakes could be higher. Usually, people apply to many institutions for better chances. This is obviously going to be expensive. With a consultant, one may apply to fewer but have a higher chance of success.
