The Necessity Of Improving Motor Skills In Children

By Sarah Barnes

Babies and children are developing all the times. This relates to their brain development as well as their emotional and physical development. An important aspect of this is, of course improving motor skills in children. One needs to focus on this for a number of different reasons. Kids are curious so they want to learn and explore. Parents need to take advantage of this. They should be aware of why this is important and how to progress with this.

It will help them develop some control over their bigger muscles as well as the smaller muscles. Both of these areas are just as important. Gross motor skills include the bigger muscles, which will involve messages that are sent from the brain to the body which will tell the child to jump or run.

Babies will also be learning the basics in the early stages. For example, a little one will be learning to stand in their play pen. They will learn to crawl, and in a few months time, after pulling themselves up, they will learn to walk. It is important to give them a lot of praise so that they continue to build this up.

It can be good to encourage creative skills, such as drawing and painting and even sculpture, such as with playing with dough. This can help fine motor skills. It can also develop the creative process which is so important. It can be fun for a child to become messy and smear the paint on the board with their hands. This actually helps them to feel the texture, and to really get involved.

This is part of the eye hand coordination which is so unnecessary which children have to take advantage of at this time of their lives when they are developing. Children will initially have problems with these tasks and become impatient. It is natural for them to struggle at first. Teachers are equipped with certain methods to help them get going.

As children develop, they will need to focus on other activities, such as with the arms and legs which will lead to balance and coordination. There are fun games that one can play. It helps with social interaction when kids play these games together as well. Props like balls will help learning to kick or to catch. You can build up their concentration by asking them to bounce the ball. You can even give them a challenge by asking them to bounce the ball to a certain number of times.

Chidlren need to learn about different textures. It can include discovering this through arts and crafts. They will get to know more about this when they knead play dough or when they draw and paint with various mediums. Parents and teachers should point this out to them as they go. It is important for them to explore. They also need to discover this with their hands instead of simply using a pen or a paint brush.

There are toys and activities which are not expensive. For example, a child can get a lot out of making a necklace out of beads. Beads are not expensive. But one can also get hold of macaroni which can be an alternative and also a lot of fun because this comes in a variety of shapes.
